Pirates

COOOOOOOOOOON!

And once again I'm off to CONvergence for the weekend! Don't burn LJ down or anything while I'm gone. If you're going to be at con, look for the pirate flag and you'll find me.

Drink up, me hearties! Yo ho!

I went to see Wanted yesterday with [info]takuansoho and [info]belindabird.

Spoilers )

So mixed feelings. On the bright side though, I did see some amazing previews. Dark Knight, of course. Also, the X-Files 2, Burn After Reading, and DEATH RACE. It's a RACE. Full of DEATH! I rofled.

Ianto Knows Everything

TorchWOOT

This is my random thought for today.

The reason Torchwood season three is going to be so short is because the powers that be have finally answered the call of myself and [info]lugia222. Yes, I predict that half the Torchwood budget for season three was blown on the TORCHWOODCOPTER. Covered in LED lights! Flashing "TORCHWOOD" all the time! (Maybe the address of the hub as well, in true secret organization fashion.) Whisking our heroes dramatically across Cardiff towards the danger as fast as is possible! No more "Will we get there in time?!" car driving sequences. No more "Oh crap! It's a flying alien!" problems! No more need to call out for pizza!

By the way, RTD, I am still awaiting fulfillment of our additional demand for pitas.

Nodame and Chiaki

I missed the part where you copy/pasta the results somehow, but HEY who cares because I are teh:

English Genius

You scored 86% Beginner, 93% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 87% Expert!
You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

For the complete Answer Key, visit my blog: http://shortredhead78.blogspot.com/.

Take the Commonly Confused Words Test

Actually, I'm disappointed I didn't get 100% on all of these. Clearly I have failed as an English major. I'll be over here hanging my head in shame.

Shiny New Fandom: The Middleman

Okay, so when my f-list raves about something, it usually means I should get off my lazy ass and watch it. Previous shows that fit this formula include Firefly and Doctor Who. So since people have been talking about it, [info]cthuljew has been IMing me about it, and today Henry Jenkins is fanboying all over it, I watched the first episode of the Middleman over the weekend.

They had me when Wendy said "hentai tentacle monster" on ABC Family. The double take I did was epic.

The banter is extremely geeky and excellent. I will continue watching and you all should too so I have people to actually talk about it with.

ETA: Jenkins is the man. He points out that the first episode is online in full if you want to check it out.

Avast!

Hey f-list, you're smart and all over the internet. Can you recommend and or provide any upbeat piratey music and/or sea shanties? I've got about 40 more minutes of a blank CD to fill up.

What I've got already )

All three Pirates OSTs are on separate CDs, of course. I've also got the Rogue's Gallery two CD set on backup as well.

PRODUCTIVITY!

I am everlastingly grateful for the assistance of [info]rubyd and [info]vulchu who came over today and helped me achieve a number of things of a piratey nature. We now have a 9' by 6' flag for the balcony (awesome), some amazing treasure chests full of swag, and an assortment of half assembled mountie hand puppets (long story). At some point over the next week when I have more glue sticks and construction paper, I will require further assistance putting them together.

Today was so productive and busy in fact that I forgot it's Doctor Who day until now. Despite [info]fishay calling me twice about watching Silence in the Library. *headdesk*

Too tired to watch it yet tonight, I think sleep is called for shortly.

Burn Notice

Stealing this particularly lovely link off of [info]musesfool:

Katee Sackhoff and Tricia Helfer ride motorcycles. Also make Jo's head esplode with teh hottness.

And what's more is that the article tells me that Tricia will be on Burn Notice this season. *flail* People, you need to watch Burn Notice with me. July 10th is coming soon and there's still time to catch up with season one! USA has all 11 episodes online.

A short little Marauder era snippet of Sirius, James, and the motorbike that JKR wrote for charity is now posted over at Mugglenet.

Yo, MAS Productions Peoples

In case you missed it, I just posted an epic list of things that need doing for the pirate party over in [info]masproductions. Please help? I don't want to have to do all these things myself and go crazy. *woobie eyes*

The comm is mostly f-locked, so if you're part of the MAS Productions group and haven't joined yet, you might want to look into it. I'll auth you in ASAP. And that way I won't have to double post things to my LJ all the time.

Also coming up over there soon will be information about our dramatic recreation of Something Completely Different that we assume will actually be happening on Friday night of the con. There will be mountie puppet making at some point in the near future! Good times.

Stolen from just about everyone on my flist.

You are in a mall when the zombies attack. You may bring:

1. one weapon.
2. one song blasting on the speakers.
3. one famous person to fight alongside you.

Weapon can be real or fictional, you may assume endless ammo if applicable. Person can be real or fictional.

1. Spaceballs the FLAAAAAAMETHROWER!
2. Jonathan Coulton - Re Your Brains CURL (Come on baby, put the rock in the house.) :P
3. Michel Foucault (Action Hero)

Barack Obama

Yes We Can (All Fit Into the Xcel Energy Center)

I was there when Barack Obama claimed the DFL nomination. This opportunity is the one good thing that has resulted from the Republican National Convention coming to St. Paul later this year.

What an amazing turnout for his speech! Myself, [info]blacksqurriel, [info]vulchu, [info]cendalire, [info]mattmn, [info]spacevlad, and some of my coworkers booked it over to the Xcel Energy Center immediately after work yesterday to get a place in line with the 20,000 other people.

Here is what the final 1.5 mile line looked like, by the way.

We were about halfway through it when we got there, between St. Peter and Wabasha, thanks to the efforts of [info]vulchu who got there earlier than most of us and actually FOUND the end of the line. That was followed by an adventure through downtown trying to find a sub shop that didn't have a line out the door and that wasn't out of bread. We found one with a line that was inside the door at least.

As the line slowly started to file into the building, we passed a bar where we could see CNN reporting Obama had only 4 delegates to go. When we got inside and seated, it was a done deal.

The speech itself only lasted about a half hour or 45 minutes. Would probably have been about 15 if every other sentence hadn't resulted in crazy cheering and yelling. I would have liked to hear something a little more substantial, but the context dictated that this was going to be short, sweet, and about claiming the nomination more than anything. And anyway, there will be plenty of time for more during the general election. I look forward to it.

Now the real fight gets started and I plan to do everything I can to make sure this happens in November.

Also, GIP. Because they fight crime. (lol)

News

GM closing 4 truck and SUV plants in North America

On the Hummer, Wagoner said GM is "undertaking a strategic review of the Hummer brand, to determine its fit with GM's evolving product portfolio" in light of changing market conditions.

"At this point, we are considering all options for the Hummer brand... everything from a complete revamp of the product lineup to partial or complete sale of the brand," he said.

While the job loss and hit to the economy that the plant closings will have on the local areas sucks hardcore and I have the utmost sympathy for the communities that will be affected, I am rooting on the downfall of the Hummer. Seriously. World's dumbest consumer vehicle.

In other news, I am going to see Barack Obama make some history in downtown St. Paul tonight. How awesome is that?

Cornucopia of Love

Evancon 2008

I have returned safely from a weekend of fun and good times visiting [info]jariten in Madison. Over the weekend we went bowling, ate waffles, played frisbee golf, ate delicious Indonesian food, ate delicious ice cream, partied on State Street, avoided a hangover, hung out at the Terrace, and had general fun with Evan and other good friends. I really could not ask for a more perfect vacation.

ETA: Oh, and I can't forget Rick Rolling local Madison bars.

The Time to Vote is Now!

You can vote in the LJ User Advisory Board elections here.

Voting ends at Thursday, 5/29 at 9pm PDT.

Here are the candidates endorsed by [info]fandom_votes:
1) [info]legomymalfoy
2) [info]rm
3) [info]vichan

And endorsed by me as well, incidentally.

You can find out more details about the [info]fandom_votes endorsement over here.

ETA: Wow, I shouldn't be allowed to write entries before noon. Fixed the comm name typo. As far as I know [info]fandom_counts doesn't actually endorse anyone.

May. 26th, 2008

This is Pam.

Flist! Where are you in my time of need? I'm at work today and in desperate need of entertainment. Yet no one is around. I'm sure you're all outside having picnics and enjoying the weather. (Curse you!)

I have become somewhat entranced by watching Twitter Vision for lack of anything better to do.

ETA: Yay, time to shut down and head home!

LJ Advisory Board Voting

Passing on some info as seen in several other journals on my flist today:

[info]fandom_votes is a community set up to organize fandom into a large enough voting block so that someone fannish can make it onto the LJ Advisory Board. This is the first LJ Advisory Board and a lot of precidents will be set. If you've been angry or annoyed at LJ for one thing or another over the last few years, I highly suggest going through the list of candidates and reading up.

[info]svmadelyn gives you the step by step breakdown of how the comm will work over here.

Eventually, once there's a fandom endorsed candidate, the actual voting can start.
